This week we take a look at a beautiful cabin boat restoration by an Australian named Matt Kelly.
In his video, Mathew runs us through the entire cosmetic restoration process of his Stejcraft Cabin Boat. Stejcraft boats have been produced in Australia by the Catanese family since 1971. This one in particular was built in the 1980’s meaning over the years it had deck fittings and bolts added that weren’t made from corrosion resistant materials like stainless steel, brass a bronze. This meant it was time to strip the boat and give it a new and less rusty lease of life.
Matt takes us through the whole process of stripping the boat of old fittings before finally prepping and painting by hand. Most interestingly matt decided to keep the 50hp Yamaha Outboard mounted on the boat due to its size and weight and not having the facilities to lift it. He then proceeded to restore the boat around the engine keeping the steering and throttle controls in place. Matt shares all of his handy tips and techniques from the restoration making this video one to watch!
