'Chopper' is a 30ft flybridge motor cruiser - Seamaster 950 hull that has been heavily customised over the years. Powered by two original Volvo Penta diesel engines and married to Volvo Penta 280 outdrives that have both recently been overhauled. A rare motor cruiser that was built thick and strong.
A classic Seamaster from the outside but a cosey bohemian home on the inside. She was taken out the water last summer at Bristol Marina where she has undergone major work to get her ready for the new owners.
She now has a recent hull survey, which will help with gaining full comp insurance or a loan if needed for the new owners. She was kept on the land for 10 years, so the bottom hull is in very good condition. Even when we had her in the water it’s been on a tidal mud mooring which preserves the anti-foul. Nevertheless, she’s recently been anti-fouled with a copper-based paint.
Unlike some modern boats, these were built strong and thick and to a decent standard in production. We have taken across the Bristol channel in bad weather and she's handled well.
OFF-GRID
Chopper has an onboard 560ah lithium phosphate battery bank, managed by a JK BMS, a Victron MPPT and a dedicated solar panel. The onboard starter battery system is is kept topped up through winter by a victron 2 output MMPT and a separate panel. There is an 800-watt sterling invertor onboard. There is also loads of room for another lithium bank if needed. A diesil heater has been installed with split ducting to heat the main cabin or saloon when needed.
Cockpit
Unlike the original Seamaster 950 the entire back of the boat has now been re-built from rot-proof composite core. A hardtop composite roof has been added above the cockpit, with a custom sauleda acrylic canvas. A solar rig, sits on this keeping the AGM leisure and starter bank topped up via a MPPT and split charge system.
A new lipped butterfly hatch has been added to the cockpit to make her more seaworthy. New plastic hatches have been added to access lockers.
There is a custom composite drop-down bench. The canvas unzips and folds up to make the back of the boat into a modular hosting area. There are custom cushions and upholstery for the dropdown bench. The main door has also been stepped.
Wheelhouse
We spent years insulating the boat/soundproofing, from custom insulated doors to stripping out the walls, ceilings and lockers to insulate. The roof in both the wheelhouse and main saloon is made from maritime pine shiplap. There is a custom slide-out double berth bed in the wheelhouse for hosting. There is a projector mount that we used with a custom pull-down screen, for cinema nights.
In this room is a double pull-out bed for hosting guests or lazy Sundays.
